Customized Lancer Evolution X by Hotwheels

This is the 2008 first edition Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X released by Mattel. The one thing that differs this from the Tomica casting (which I will also feature soon) is the bigger wheel arches and a nicer clear plastic headlamps.

This is the original version by Hotwheels...

The first custom I made for this casting is a simple street tuned version. Found a wheel donor, and the new wheels sits nicely on those big wheel arches. Then I just painted the side window beams black and replaced the almost invisible groove that indicates a road lamp with some rhinestones for added realism.

and now...

I present the 2nd of my custom Evo,
the Lancer Evolution Rally Concept (Night Version).
It is still a concept rally car since the only present Evo X is still a "course rally version".
First thing I did was to customized and detailed the interior of the car, found and painted the roll cage and fitted it to the shell, painted the whole shell with gray primer to remove the plastic effect, next was painting some details in the interior and the dashboard as well, and finally fabricating those 4 point harness with some thin plastic strips and placed a small buckle like object that resembles the belt buckle.

next was acquiring a 4 headlamp assembly that came from a tomica celica casting, although it already looked good, I still wanted to make it look more realistic, and using rhinestones as replacement for the lame plastic painted lights always did the job for me.

some small info...

I followed the paint scheme of the wrc05 ralliart team, but still maintained the body paint of the "08' course car" I left the deep red paint on this one rather than go for the much striking red of the 05 version.

The waterslide decals came from a 1:24scale Tamiya Evo 6 WRC New Zealand Rally kit that I bought from my Nephew for P100 only. So sponsors are a little older than that of the 05 versions, but fitted well just the same.

The Wheels came from a Newray 1:64 Lancer Evo7 tooned version.
and antenas came from said tamiya kit.

Finally, the roof air vent was fabricated and painted silver.

Hello Mike,

Please excuse my naivety - But how did you modify the Hotwheels Lancer? (Seperate the base / interior from the shell) and reconnect it again?

Regards, Ben
