One of my all time favorite car is the 2nd gen Opel Manta, I used to drool over this car way back in my school days together with the Ford Escort MK2. Great thing we have You Tube nowadays because you can listen to the engine roars of these monsters!
This version is from the 1986 Rally Automobile De Monte Carlo, driven by a German team, Manfred Hero and co driver Ludwig Grun, they only manage to finish 8th place in the group B category with a total time of 11:39.26 on a 3984km including 867km over 36 special stages.

Actually 8th in the major class at Monte Carlo seems to me a rather fine performance for privateers in an hopelessly outdated car. Thanks JD for showing us this very nice model!
ReplyDeleteHi JD,
ReplyDeleteAnother excellent rally collection which i seldom come across.
But it's certainly one of the legendary classic which roar the street of the 80's.
Thanks for sharing.
Kin.
Gorgeous Manta! Indeed a reminder of wonderful childhood days! Thanks for the nostalgia Mike!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good model.
ReplyDeleteI've got this one too. I think they should be more careful with the decals in the rear spoiler... for me this is a bad detail in the model.
One more think: the team finished the 1986 Monte Carlo in 11th place not 8th... i know this because i did the story of this model in my blog.
No, no José António... You read JDMike's post too fast... It's 8th in class, though you're correct about the 11th spot overall. ;)
ReplyDeleteanother excellent piece, congratz mike!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay everyone, I'm having trouble with my home pc and my new imac at the office, so far because of the firewall in the office, i could only view my blog but can't log in even in my gmail account, that sucks!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for appreciating! And you are correct sir Laurent, its a great performance for a privateer to end in 8th place with such rivals as Team Lancia Martini and the likes of the Audi Sport Team.
thanks also Jose Antonio for the tip about decals, good thing I only hold them once during pictorials and I always hold my models wearing gloves.
Thanks again everyone!! more to come in the future!
Wow Mikie, where did You find this preety? Beauty. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteLorenzo721: you are right! And you too, LDMike.
ReplyDeleteManfred Hero was 8th in the Group B but finished 11th overall, that means he finished behind 3 group A cars... this is not very good for a Group B car...
Sorry for my mistake.
And like always great photos, JDMike!
How many Opels do you have now Mike? Great shots as always, keep them coming! =)
ReplyDeleteNice car! I am still looking foa vintage Manta to add to my stable. Great photos Mike!
ReplyDeletethanks Marcjan! ebay is your friend when it comes to Mantas and others, but can also be your enemy hehe!
ReplyDeleteno worries Jose, its all good, i just research those info on the web, and i do have flops too :-) but thats why you are all here to enjoy and be informed with the hobby, why not let organize a "diecast bloggers club or org" just for kicks? hehe
nothing much, maybe just a simple badge in your website that says your a member of a diecast blog group?
thanks Jovet! :-) sadly i only have 6 (4 mantas and 2 asconas)
hope to get lucky soon!
thanks Brian, hope you'll get them soon! :-)
