The 1985 Tour De Corse was one of a tragic race wherein driver Attilio Battega crash his Lancia 037 in a tree hitting the driver side instantly killing him, while his co driver, Maurizio Perissinot survived uninjured.
Other retirements on that race due to crashes included Ari Vatanen, Walter Rohrl and Didier Auriol in another Renault Maxi 5 Turbo.
The winner of this tragic race was Jean Ragnotti and co driver Pierre Thimonier driving a Renault Maxi 5 Turbo.

As usual, a very nice model. Those cars were terrific in Corsica. Renault would not participate to the world championship apart from this event, which was part of the French championship. There, the 5 Turbo then its evolution the 5 Maxi Turbo would beat all the great teams on the twisty roads of the little island every year.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Jean Ragnotti, I regret that there's no more any character such as him on the too much professionalized modern racing scene. Always a big smile and a neverending stream of jokes.
thanks sir Laurent and for the ever numerous infos you always share to us. :-)
